In a significant yet focused reshuffle within the Indian Police Service (IPS), the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Mr. Sharad Agarwal, a 1997-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Mizoram. He replaces Mr. Anil Shukla, a 1995-batch IPS officer of the same cadre.
Mr. Agarwal is currently serving in the Delhi Police as the Special Commissioner of the Economic Offences Wing. With a strong background in law enforcement and financial crime investigation, his appointment is expected to strengthen policing in the northeastern state.
Meanwhile, Mr. Anil Shukla, the outgoing DGP of Mizoram, will return to Delhi. His new assignment is yet to be announced. The reshuffle reflects the central government’s ongoing efforts to ensure efficient leadership in key policing positions across states.
Mr. Agarwal brings with him extensive experience in high-stakes financial crime investigations as he held key roles in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), including a stint as Joint Director—an assignment extended multiple times due to his notable performance. In his new capacity, he will oversee policing operations and strategy in Mizoram, steering the state’s law enforcement apparatus. Mr. Shukla will return to Delhi, with his future assignment yet to be announced.
