Gundlupet: Forest department personnel rescued an injured tiger near Heggawadi Road in Kundukere Range under Bandipur Tiger Reserve on Friday. The big cat was later shifted to the rehabilitation centre at Koorgalli in Mysuru for treatment.
Farmers Alert Forest Officials
The rescue operation began after farmers spotted the tiger lying weak in a field on Friday morning. They immediately informed forest officials, who rushed to the location. Bandipur Deputy Conservator of Forest Prabhakaran, ACF Suresh, and Kundukere Range Forest Officer Nagendra Nayak supervised the operation.
Veterinarian Dr. Wasim Mirza arrived at the spot, tranquilised the tiger, and facilitated its safe transfer to the Koorgalli Rehabilitation Centre.
Cause of Injury and Local Concerns
According to officials, the tiger, estimated to be around 11 years old, had sustained injuries in a territorial fight with another tiger. While the rescue was underway, farmers insisted the injured tiger should not be shifted until the other tiger involved in the fight was also captured.
