Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of learning from history to guide society’s progress while correcting past mistakes, during his address at the 134th Annual Sports Meet of Colvin Taluqdars’ College. Speaking to students, teachers, and parents, the CM highlighted that drawing lessons from both achievements and errors is essential for individual and collective growth.
March-Past Reflects Discipline and Patriotism
The Chief Minister praised the march-past performance, noting the discipline, synchronization, and dedication of students. “Watching the students march with such precision felt reminiscent of the young soldiers of Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj,” he said. He added that such events help instill discipline, self-confidence, and patriotism among students.
Tribute to Former College President Kunwar Anand Singh
CM Yogi paid homage to the late Kunwar Anand Singh, former president of the college, recognizing his contributions to the institution’s development and growth. “Though he is no longer with us physically, his legacy continues to guide us,” the CM remarked.
Role of Educational Institutions in Social Cohesion
Highlighting the importance of educational institutions in uniting society, the CM said, “Elements that divide society are always present, but schools and colleges have a crucial role in bringing people together.” He reflected on the college’s founding in 1889, during a challenging post-1857 period, and noted that ideas like Vande Mataram rekindled the spirit of freedom during those times.

Celebrating India’s Heritage and Culture
CM Yogi applauded the college’s house system, named after historic Indian centers of knowledge and culture: Takshashila, Nalanda, Ujjain, Ajanta, and Sanchi. He explained:
- Takshashila was one of the world’s oldest universities.
- Nalanda served as a hub of knowledge and research.
- Ujjain was known for astronomy and justice systems.
- Ajanta and Sanchi showcase India’s rich architectural heritage.
He praised efforts to develop students’ holistic growth through these culturally rooted initiatives.
Historical Milestones Celebrated
The Chief Minister also noted that 2025 marks several historic anniversaries and milestones, including:
- 350th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur
- 350th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar
- 150 years of the creation of Vande Mataram
- 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Birsa Munda
- 75 years of the Indian Constitution
He emphasized that festivals and traditions such as Diwali, Holi, Ram Navami, Janmashtami, Shivratri, and Raksha Bandhan have historically played a key role in uniting society.
Guiding Students Towards Success
CM Yogi advised students that discipline and hard work are essential for success. He encouraged them to combine regular study with creative activities, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and follow structured daily routines.
He also cautioned students against excessive use of social media and smartphones, recommending limited screen time and suggesting that students develop language skills and knowledge through newspapers and books.
Sports, Fitness, and Technology
Highlighting initiatives like Khelo India, Fit India, and MP’s Parliamentary Sports Competitions, CM Yogi stressed the importance of sports infrastructure in every village, open-air gyms, and regular physical activity. He urged students to embrace technology as a tool, not a burden, and remain aware of opportunities in AI, drones, and robotics.
He also advised students to stay focused, ignore distractions, and learn from failures, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth.
Recognizing Excellence
The Chief Minister presented cups and shields to outstanding students, including Dinesh Pratap Singh, Pranjal Tripathi, Devraj Singh Patel, Ayushi Singh, and Sarthak Tripathi. The 11 Gorkha Rifles Band performed a ceremonial parade to honor the CM. Several central ministers, local representatives, teachers, and parents were present at the event.
