New Delhi: The 2024 batch Indian Foreign Services (IFS) Officer Trainees (OTs) had an enriching cultural exchange with Terence Lewis, one of India’s leading choreographers and dancers, during a session at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service (SSIFS).
Mr Lewis, renowned for developing the “Indo-Contemporary” fusion dance style, emphasized the importance of presenting Indian traditions innovatively, making dance a powerful medium of connection.
SSIFS posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Credited for developing a new style of “Indo-Contemporary” fusion dance, Mr Lewis impressed upon the fact that it is important for artists to present Indian traditions in innovative ways so that ‘dance’ becomes an effective medium of connect with the people.”
Dean of SSIFS, Amb Raj Srivastava, reminisced about Lewis’ stunning performance in Croatia, “Indradhanush,” and encouraged the diplomats to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage globally.

Born on 10th April, 1975, Mr Lewis is an Indian dancer, singer and choreographer. He is known for judging the reality dance shows Dance India Dance (2009–2012) and Nach Baliye (2012–2017). He runs his “Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company” in Mumbai (Bombay) & holds dance workshops both in India and abroad.
