Indian Forest Service officer of the 1989 batch, Susanta Nanda, is very active on Twitter and often tweets videos of animals in different situations – both pleasant and unpleasant.
Recently he tweeted a rather alarming video of a tiger curiously tossing around what looks like a plastic bag and sniffing it to find out what it is or what’s in it. Urging people to be responsible, Mr. Nanda wrote: “Spare the tiger reserves. Plastics are entering the food chain of the apex predators in the least expected areas covering less than 2.25 % of our total geographic area. Be responsible.”
It is not clear the video is from which tiger reserve. However, it once again highlights the urgent need to stop littering our forests and other animal habitats with plastics. Visitors to national parks and reserves should act as responsible citizens as well.
