IFS officer Mohan Pargaien has shared an interesting video on X that shows a unique way of storing water in Tanzania. Countless half moon shaped bunds are being used to store water, creating a beautiful bird’s eye view from above.
Why half moon and not full moon? To this question by an X user on this thread, the officer replied,” To store more rainwater”. He also informed that similar interventions like staggered trenches, contour trenches and percolation tanks have been used in watershed programmes in various states of India to harvest rainwater and improve the water table.
Another user left a comment saying that these moon shaped shallow bunds are a much better alternative to the soil and land destroying Deep CCTs being used in India.
