Gujarat has witnessed severe crop damage in the last week of October due to unseasonal rains, causing widespread distress among farmers. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel took immediate action by visiting the affected regions of Gir Somnath and Junagadh districts to assess the situation and hear from the farmers directly. During his visit, he assured farmers of full support from the state government and promised an expedited relief package to mitigate their losses.
CM Patel’s on-the-ground visit to affected villages
The Chief Minister’s tour included visits to Kadvasan village in Gir Somnath and Panidra village in Junagadh, both of which suffered significant agricultural damage. Mr. Patel personally inspected the fields and interacted with the farmers, gaining firsthand insight into the extent of the destruction caused by the unseasonal rains. His visit aimed to assure the farmers that the state government stands firmly behind them during these challenging times.
Affected areas and preliminary assessments
Mr. Patel informed the public that preliminary surveys indicate crop losses across more than 16,000 villages in 249 tehsils of Gujarat. The damage spans multiple regions, with survey teams already completing assessments in 70% of the affected areas. The remaining surveys are expected to be finalized soon.
Relief assistance package to be announced
During his visit, the Chief Minister assured farmers that a relief package would be announced shortly. The state government is committed to providing necessary financial support and assistance to restore agricultural productivity and help farmers recover from the damage. The relief package will include provisions for compensation, assistance for replanting crops, and other support measures.
Government ministers join the inspection
Alongside Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat Government Ministers Mr. Arjun Bhai Modhwadia, Dr. Pradyuman Vaja, and State Minister Mr. Kaushik Bhai Vekaria were also present during the site inspections. The presence of these key officials highlighted the state government’s commitment to addressing the crisis at the highest levels of administration.

Mr. Patel reaffirmed that the government’s top priority is to address the hardships faced by farmers and to work swiftly to restore normalcy. He emphasized that the entire government stands with the farmers, offering not only empathy but also practical solutions and timely support.

As the surveys are completed and the damage assessment is fully compiled, the government will fast-track the relief process.
