In a landmark initiative, Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath launched the scholarship distribution process for the 2025–26 academic year by transferring funds to nearly five lakh students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The event was held at Lok Bhavan and organized by the Backward Classes Welfare Department.
This marks the first time the UP government has begun disbursing scholarships in September, significantly earlier than in previous years, reinforcing its commitment to student welfare and educational equity.
A Transparent and Timely Shift in Policy
During his address, Mr. Yogi Adityanath emphasized the transparency and accountability brought into the system.
“Earlier, there was widespread discrimination in scholarship selection. Today, more than 6.2 million students in the state are receiving scholarships, with funds now distributed in two installments, not at the end of the year,” he said.
He added that with DBT-enabled transfers, students no longer need to run from office to office, ensuring efficiency, dignity, and timely support for every eligible student.
E-Governance for Inclusive Education
Mr. Asim Arun, UP Minister, noted that the state is shifting from e-governance to “E-governance with empathy”, in line with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision. The goal, he said, is to connect governance to grassroots needs, particularly in the area of education.
No Deserving Student Left Behind
Mr. Narendra Kashyap, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Disability Empowerment, reiterated the government’s commitment:
“No talented student should be deprived of education due to financial limitations.”
To achieve this, the government has fully digitized the scholarship and fee reimbursement process, increasing both accessibility and transparency for students from economically weaker and backward communities.
Digitization Ensures Fairness and Efficiency
The complete digitization of the scholarship process allows real-time tracking, eliminates intermediaries, and ensures that the benefits reach the right students at the right time. This digital-first approach is a major leap in student-centric governance and supports Uttar Pradesh’s larger goal of building a skilled and educated youth base.
