Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has announced the creation of a 76th district in the state, marking a significant step in administrative expansion and local development. Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 75 districts. The new district will be carved out by dividing Aligarh and Bulandshahr districts. While the proposal has not yet been formally presented in the Legislative Assembly, officials indicate that it is likely to be approved following the CM’s announcement.
Honoring Former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh
The new district is planned in the region that has been the birthplace and workplace of former Chief Minister Mr. Kalyan Singh. In recognition of his contributions, the district is expected to be named after him. The initiative is seen as a tribute to Mr. Singh’s legacy and a step toward strengthening governance in the area.
Administrative Process for New District Formation
Creating a new district involves multiple stages. Cabinet approval in the Legislative Assembly is required first. Following this, the Revenue Department conducts detailed surveys assessing population, geography, and economic conditions. Based on these findings, a high-level committee prepares a report and outlines recommendations. Once approved, administrative structures and governance systems are put in place.
Economic and Developmental Implications
The creation of a new district is estimated to cost around Rs. 2000 crore. This includes development of infrastructure such as roads, electricity, water supply, government offices, and staff appointments. Investments will also be made in constructing district headquarters, courts, and offices for agriculture, education, and health departments. Experts suggest that the new district will bring governance closer to the people, improve service delivery, and accelerate regional development.
Strategic Benefits of the New District
Officials say the district formation will reduce administrative burden on Aligarh and Bulandshahr, improve accessibility for residents, and enhance local economic planning. By establishing modern facilities and robust governance structures, the government aims to ensure better public service delivery and long-term growth for the region.
