Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that his government will propose renaming Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri district to “Kabirdham.” The decision, he said, aims to restore the area’s cultural and spiritual identity linked to Saint Kabir — a revered poet-saint whose teachings emphasize equality, devotion, and moral integrity.
Speaking at the Smriti Mahotsav Mela 2025, Mr. Adityanath reaffirmed his government’s mission to revive Uttar Pradesh’s ancient heritage and correct historical distortions in place names. He emphasized that this initiative is not merely symbolic but represents a commitment to preserving India’s civilizational identity and strengthening its spiritual foundations.
‘Kabirdham’ to Reflect Saint Kabir’s Philosophy and Legacy
The Chief Minister shared that the proposal for renaming Mustafabad as Kabirdham will be formally introduced soon. “When I came here, I asked what the name of this village was. I learned it was Mustafabad. I have requested a proposal and asked for a name change. Brothers and sisters, this is the essence of intimacy. These people changed Ayodhya to Faizabad and Prayagraj to Allahabad. We have changed that. Previously, the money used to go towards the boundary of the cemetery; we have changed that,” said Mr. Adityanath.
He added, “This is about restoring the respect of the place associated with the legacy of Saint Kabir.”
Continuing a Wave of Restorative Name Changes
Mr. Adityanath recalled that his government had earlier restored historic names such as Ayodhya (previously Faizabad) and Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad). He noted that the ongoing renaming efforts are part of a wider movement to revive India’s traditional and cultural values.
From the stage in Lakhimpur Kheri, the Chief Minister said, “Remember, we have a double-engine government in UP today. We are renovating major religious sites; otherwise, previously, money was spent on building cemetery boundaries. We changed Allahabad’s name to Prayagraj, Faizabad’s name to Ayodhya, and now Mustafabad will also be renamed Kabirdham. Previously, Mughalsarai railway station was renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction. Jhansi railway station was renamed Veerangna Laxmibai Railway Station. Mughalsarai tehsil was also renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.”
Major Infrastructure and Cultural Landmarks Renamed Across Uttar Pradesh
Mr. Adityanath also listed several other recent renaming initiatives aimed at honoring India’s spiritual and national icons. “Eight railway stations in Amethi have also been renamed,” he said.
- Fursatganj station has been renamed Tapeshwarnath Dham.
- Kasimpur Halt has been renamed Jais City.
- Jais station has been renamed Guru Gorakhnath Dham.
- Bani station was renamed after Swami Paramhans.
- Misrauli was renamed Maa Kalikan Dham.
- Nihalgarh station was named after Maharaja Bijli Pasi.
- Akbarganj was renamed Maa Ahorva Bhawani Dham.
- Warisganj was renamed after Amar Shaheed Bhale Sultan.
He further said, “In Lucknow, Burlington Square has been renamed after Ashok Singhal, and Sikandarbagh Square has been renamed after Veerangna Udadevi.”
Double-Engine Government Driving Cultural and Developmental Growth
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to beautify and restore all major religious and cultural sites across Uttar Pradesh. “We are working to beautify and restore all religious sites. We are rebuilding not only Kashi, Mathura, and Ayodhya, but also Mathura, Vrindavan, and Gokarna, along with other religious sites associated with public faith,” he said.
He underlined that the “double-engine government” of the Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to holistic development that combines infrastructure expansion with cultural preservation.
A Revival of Faith, Heritage, and Pride
Mr. Adityanath concluded by emphasizing that these efforts symbolize the revival of India’s civilizational pride. “It is a feeling of belonging — a revival of our civilisational identity. The government will continue to restore the glory of places that reflect India’s spiritual and cultural roots,” he said.
Through these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh aims to emerge as not just a center of governance and development but also as a global hub of faith tourism, heritage conservation, and cultural pride.
