In a visionary step aimed at strengthening the state’s frontier regions, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced the formation of a Border Area Development Council. The new council is intended to systematically enhance basic infrastructure, public services, and innovation in border areas, ensuring balanced regional development.
This major policy decision was declared during the Fourth Border Mountain Children’s Science Festival held in Guptkashi, Rudraprayag, on Wednesday. Mr. Dhami described the initiative as a “transformational gift” to the people living in strategically important yet underserved border districts.
Innovation Centers in Border Districts to Focus on Disaster, Health, and Education
During his address, Mr. Dhami also revealed plans to set up dedicated Innovation Centers in border districts. These centers will focus on disaster management, public health, and education, preparing communities to respond effectively to climate-related and environmental challenges.
Engaging with young minds at the festival, the Chief Minister encouraged child scientists from various districts to participate actively in discussions on climate change, water conservation, and disaster preparedness, highlighting the state’s commitment to nurturing grassroots scientific thinking.
Science City in Dehradun: Uttarakhand to Join National Innovation Map
In another landmark announcement, Mr. Dhami confirmed that Dehradun will soon house India’s fifth Science City, a project that will place Uttarakhand firmly on the national innovation and science education map. The proposed Science City will provide a hub for scientific research, public engagement, and youth development.
He praised the central government under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, stating that India is rising globally through its focus on innovation, self-reliance, and research-led development.
Tourism Boost with Wayside Amenity Project in Champawat
Adding to the day’s development-focused initiatives, Mr. Dhami also laid the foundation stone for a Wayside Amenity project in Amodi, Champawat. The project, to be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.60 crore, aims to enhance roadside infrastructure and services for travelers and tourists.
The Chief Minister emphasized that this project is a core component of his vision for an “Ideal Champawat”, aligning with broader goals to strengthen tourism infrastructure and generate employment for local youth and women.
Strategic Development with a Vision for Self-Reliant Uttarakhand
With these forward-looking measures, Uttarakhand is positioning itself as a model for sustainable border development, youth innovation, and decentralized tourism infrastructure. The creation of institutions such as the Border Area Development Council and Science City marks a shift towards targeted investments in high-potential, underrepresented regions of the state.
These steps reflect a balanced approach to governance that integrates science, security, and self-sufficiency — critical components for long-term regional stability and national growth.
