Ramnagar / Haldwani: As part of his ongoing tour of the Kumaon region, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami arrived in Haldwani, the district headquarters of Nainital, on Tuesday. During his visit, he flagged off six new city buses that will operate across various urban routes in the city, aimed at improving public transport facilities and reducing traffic congestion.
Speaking at the launch event, CM Dhami stated that the new city bus service is a significant step toward providing affordable, accessible, and safe transportation to the residents of Haldwani. He added that the initiative would help ease traffic pressure, reduce pollution, and promote energy conservation.
Officials from the transport department shared that the bus service would be expanded in phased manner to cover major routes in the city, benefiting local commuters, students, and office-goers alike.
CM Dhami Raises Concern Over Demographic Changes in the State
In addition to the transport initiative, Chief Minister Dhami made a strong statement regarding the changing demographic landscape of Uttarakhand, asserting that the state government will not tolerate any tampering with the region’s cultural identity or population balance.
“Uttarakhand is the land of the gods (Devbhoomi), and we will not allow its social and cultural fabric to be disturbed at any cost,” said CM Dhami.
Expressing concern over demographic shifts in areas like Pashchimi Doon (Western Dehradun) and other parts of the state, the CM emphasized that the government would no longer ignore such developments.
Strict Instructions to District Officials
CM Dhami revealed that all District Magistrates have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance on demographic patterns in their respective areas. He directed officials to identify ineligible beneficiaries of government schemes by verifying documents such as ration cards, Aadhaar cards, electricity connections, and family registers.
Those found availing government benefits through fraudulent means will face strict legal action, he said.
Attack on Previous Governments
The Chief Minister also criticized previous Congress governments, blaming their negligence for the demographic imbalance seen in certain parts of the state. He assured that the current government is committed to strong, decisive action to restore and protect Uttarakhand’s demographic and cultural balance.
“There will be no compromise with the state’s population structure and cultural values. We have instructed all DMs to stay alert and take immediate legal action against anyone misusing government facilities,” he said.
Cultural and Population Balance a Government Priority
The Chief Minister concluded by underlining that the protection of Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage and demographic integrity is now a top priority for the state government.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions and concerns over population imbalance in the region, signaling the government’s firm stance on the issue.
