In a major development showcasing the state government’s commitment to youth employment and education sector reform, Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that over 26,500 government jobs have been provided to Uttarakhand’s youth during his tenure — twice as many as before.
This announcement was made during an appointment letter distribution ceremony held at Doon Medical College, Patel Nagar, where 1,456 newly selected candidates were formally appointed as Assistant Teachers (LT), Review Officers, and Assistant Review Officers.
Government Jobs Hit Milestone: 26,500 and Counting
Mr. Dhami emphasized that the recruitment drive is not slowing down. The figure, previously 25,000, surged past 26,500 after the latest round of appointments, and the recruitment exams will continue in a structured and transparent manner.
“Young people must focus on preparing well. It is our responsibility to ensure a clean and fair recruitment system. No youth should worry,” said Mr. Dhami.
Inclusive Appointment Drive Ensures Regional Balance
The Chief Minister ensured that appointments would be balanced across the Kumaon and Garhwal regions, with separate ceremonies planned in Nainital and Srinagar Garhwal for those who didn’t receive their letters on the spot.
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat clarified that this latest round of LT teacher recruitment was done to fill vacant positions and would not affect the employment status of guest teachers, particularly in the Kumaon region, where concerns had been raised.
Major Upcoming Appointments in Education Department
Dr. Rawat also announced a massive recruitment push within the Education Department, including:
- 1,500+ BRC and CRP posts
- 2,100 Basic Teacher posts
- 2,400 Class IV posts
These upcoming appointments aim to strengthen school infrastructure in rural and remote areas and reduce staff shortages in hilly regions.
Serving Remote Areas is Now Mandatory for New Recruits
To address the issue of teacher shortages in remote regions, Dr. Rawat stated that all newly appointed LT teachers will be posted in remote or difficult areas for a few years. However, 166 new LT teachers will serve in accessible (‘Sugam’) areas for 15 days to allow experienced remote-serving teachers (10+ years) to shift to more accessible locations.
This rotation strategy aims to balance teacher deployment, reduce migration, and ensure quality education in under-served areas.
MLA Chamoli Calls for Localised Appointments to Prevent Migration
Mr. Vinod Chamoli, MLA from Dharampur, proposed that appointments be made within the candidate’s home division, such as Garhwal or Kumaon, to reduce the hardship of relocation and help mitigate rural-to-urban migration. He emphasized that youth also bear the responsibility of serving in remote regions to support development in hilly areas.
Bureaucratic Efficiency Meets Youth-Centric Governance
This coordinated and large-scale recruitment underlines the Dhami government’s emphasis on transparency, accountability, and inclusive development. The ongoing drive not only empowers the youth with job opportunities but also aligns with the state’s larger goal of strengthening public services, especially education, in rural and remote districts.
