In a major step toward sustainable and spiritual development, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inaugurated the first phase of the Rs. 185.20 crore Sharda Corridor Project at Sharda Ghat, Tanakpur. The initiative, which aims to merge faith, culture, environment, and employment, is being hailed as a landmark step in regional rejuvenation.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Dhami emphasized that the project will convert the valley stretching from Banbasa to Mata Rankochi into a vibrant hub of religion, tourism, and economic opportunity. “This sacred land will no longer remain merely a center of faith—it will now become a channel of economic prosperity for the people,” he stated.
A Vision for Eco-Friendly and Inclusive Development
The first phase of the project, valued at Rs. 185.20 crore, centers on redeveloping Sharda Ghat with a strong focus on eco-sensitive and aesthetically pleasing design. Plans include safe bathing ghats, modern sanitation facilities, a dedicated aarti site, rest zones, landscaped riverfronts, accessible walkways, and state-of-the-art lighting.
A major attraction will be the technologically advanced aarti site equipped with rainwater harvesting, flood-resistant infrastructure, and a floor cooling system—ensuring environmental balance and visitor comfort.
“The Sharda Corridor will serve as a model of religious tourism and environmental harmony, promoting both faith and livelihoods,” Mr. Dhami remarked, highlighting the project’s potential to generate employment and stimulate local businesses.
Balancing Faith with Forest and Infrastructure
Acknowledging that certain parts of the corridor lie within forest areas, Mr. Dhami mentioned that land transfer procedures are already underway in coordination with the Forest Department. Managed by the Uttarakhand Infrastructure and Industrial Development Board (UIIDB), the project will prioritize timely land transfer in areas like Danda and Chuka to avoid administrative delays.
The corridor, connecting the revered sites of Purnagiri and Mata Rankochi, is envisioned as a seamless blend of devotion, eco-tourism, and wildlife education—making it a holistic pilgrimage experience.
A People-Centric and Transparent Development Model
Highlighting the government’s inclusive vision, Mr. Dhami reaffirmed that the Sharda Corridor will be developed with active public participation and transparency. “Every decision will reflect local opinion and safeguard environmental equilibrium,” he said.
The Chief Minister concluded by calling the Sharda Corridor a “renaissance of faith and soul,” emphasizing that it represents a model where tradition and progress coexist harmoniously. “This initiative will set an example for how development can honor both spiritual heritage and modern aspirations,” he added.
