World EV Day 2025: CM Mohan Yadav Pushes Madhya Pradesh to Become India’s EV Manufacturing Hub

State unveils Electric Vehicle Policy, sets targets for adoption, incentives for EV infrastructure, and skill development programs in key cities
Indian Masterminds Stories

Bhopal: On the occasion of World Electric Vehicle (EV) Day, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s ambitious plans to lead India’s electric mobility revolution. Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to formulate a dedicated Electric Vehicle Policy, aiming to promote clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and position the state as a future EV manufacturing hub.

Formation of EV Promotion Board and Policy Incentives

Dr. Yadav announced that an Electric Vehicle Promotion Board will soon be established to ensure inter-departmental coordination and smooth implementation of the policy. The state’s EV policy includes financial incentives such as road tax and registration fee exemptions, support for setting up charging and battery swapping infrastructure, and retrofitting allowances for 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and cars.

The government has set ambitious targets under the MP Electric Vehicle Policy 2025: by 2030, 40% of 2-wheelers, 80% of 3-wheelers, 15% of 4-wheelers, and 40% of buses registered in the state will be electric. Financial support includes up to ₹10 lakh for charging stations, ₹2 crore for research and skill development, and ₹5 lakh for battery swapping stations.

Skill Development and EV Model Cities

To build a skilled workforce, the policy introduces EV-related courses in engineering colleges and ITIs. Additionally, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain will be developed as EV model cities, promoting adoption and infrastructure readiness.

Madhya Pradesh as an EV Manufacturing Hub

With a strong industrial base, infrastructure, and access to critical raw materials like lithium, Madhya Pradesh has the potential to become a major EV manufacturing hub. The state is well-positioned to host battery production facilities, assembly plants, and a robust supply chain network. Lithium reserves recently discovered in India are expected to reduce import dependency, further strengthening the EV supply chain, with Madhya Pradesh benefiting significantly.

Environmental Impact and Public Awareness

Dr. Yadav urged citizens to reduce carbon emissions and adopt clean energy solutions. Electric vehicles not only lower greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs but also improve energy distribution efficiency and urban air quality. Awareness campaigns and workshops are being organized across the state, including an EV Workshop and Electric Auto Expo at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal.

Future Outlook

Madhya Pradesh aims to play a pivotal role in India’s EV ecosystem, leveraging its talent, infrastructure, and government support. With increasing public interest and community awareness, the state is poised to lead the country in electric mobility and contribute to India’s net-zero emission goals by 2070.
