In a major bureaucratic appointment, the Punjab government has appointed Ishwar Singh, a 1993 batch IPS officer, as ADGP Law & Order. He was presently working as as Chief Director of Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
The government has made this transfer in the midst of questions arising on law and order in Punjab. This is noteworthy that ADGP Law & Order post was vacant for seven days as the previous ADGP, Law and Order, Naresh Kumar, 1993 batch IPS officer, was shifted.
Recently, Singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead during the period when there was no officer heading the Law & Order wing.
IPS Ishwar Singh is very prominent officer in Punjab police and worked mainly in the Law and Order wing during the Akali and Congress regimes. In January, he was appointed as the new Vigilance Bureau Chief of Punjab. He replaced 1991-batch IPS officer B K Uppal.
Meanwhile, Punjab Government has appointed 1993 batch IPS officer Varinder Kumar as Chief Director of Punjab Vigilance Bureau. In an order issued by the Chief Secretary of the state Anirudh Tiwari, it has been said that on the basis of the recommendations of the committee constituted under section 24 of the Punjab State Vigilance Commission Act, 2020.
