The ‘Chintan Shivir’ was attended by Indian Police Service (IPS) officers assigned to the CAPF and NSG in the national capital.

Amit Shah will also preside over a meeting of Disaster Management ministers from the states and union territories tomorrow, according to reports. Officials of the Disaster Management Department from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are also scheduled to attend the meeting.

The ‘Chintan Shivir’ with CAPFs and NSG discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the forthcoming yearly Amarnath pilgrimage, since a large number of CAPF companies have been deployed in the UT and more will be arriving for the yatra.

Along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed in considerable numbers to carry out anti-militancy operations. Among additional paramilitary forces scheduled to reach Jammu and Kashmir in the next few days for the pilgrimage, the majority will be from the CRPF, followed by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Paramilitary forces are also playing a major role to tackle Left-wing extremism. They have also been deployed in good numbers to control violence in Manipur which flared up recently. As far as the Border Security Force (BSF) is concerned, it mans the International Border (IB) with Pakistan in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts in Jammu region besides Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat etc.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla will join senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for the day-long conference. Considering challenges before India in disaster management, the meeting is learnt to focus on preparedness to deal with the human, material, economic or environmental impacts challenges.

The meeting is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s holistic approach to preparing for disaster management to make it relief-centric, early warning-centric, proactive and early preparedness-based in order to respond to and learn from the effects of major failures.
