At 81 years old, former IPS officer SR Darapuri has shown that age is just a number by tying the knot for the second time. The retired officer, a resident of Indiranagar in Lucknow, shared the news of his marriage on social media, updating his followers on this significant life event. Darapuri’s new wife is an Anganwadi worker from Lakhimpur, whom he married on Thursday, August 8, following the passing of his first wife in 2022.

Darapuri, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease, faced significant challenges after his wife’s death, which led to his decision to remarry. The former officer is a father to two sons, Vaidya and Rahul Darapuri, and a daughter, Sulchana Darapuri, who is married.

Retiring in 2003 after a distinguished 32-year career in the Indian Police Service, SR Darapuri has since dedicated his life to human rights activism, focusing on the rights of Dalits and minorities. His commitment to social justice has often placed him in the spotlight. In October of the previous year, Darapuri was arrested along with five other activists while protesting for land rights for Dalits.

His activism also drew attention during the anti-CAA protests in 2019, when the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh ordered him and several others to pay Rs 63 lakh in damages for public and government property. Beyond his work as an activist, Darapuri also ventured into politics, contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He has been actively involved in organizations like the Ambedkar Mahasabha, continuing his lifelong commitment to social causes.
