In Bastar, where the echoes of Naxalism once drowned the aspirations of the community, lies Chandameta village, that had long remained untouched by the gleam of electricity and the strides of progress. Today, as the first spark of light illuminates every household, a tale of transformation and hope unfolds.

NAXAL TERROR

For more than seven decades since the country gained Independence, Chandameta grappled with the shadows of Naxal terror, rendering it isolated from basic amenities, including electricity. However, a recent turn of events has breathed new life into this remote village, marking the end of a prolonged struggle.

The catalyst for change came in the form of relentless efforts by the district administration, determined to break the shackles of underdevelopment that had gripped Chandameta for generations. The establishment of a security forces camp heralded a new era, not only bringing an end to Naxal threats but also paving the way for a surge in developmental initiatives.

POWER SUPPLY

The District Collector, IAS officer Vijay Dayaram K., spearheaded these endeavours, ensuring that promises made to the villagers were not merely words but tangible realities. In a recent visit to Chandameta, he inaugurated the electrification project, symbolising a transformative moment that echoes with joy and newfound possibilities.

“Disperse population and limited habitations have been two major reasons for no electricity. For the last many years, Bastar has been the centre of Naxalism due to which providing basic facilities was a big problem,” Mr. Dayaram told Indian Masterminds.

The villagers still reminisce about the days when the absence of electricity forced them to rely on lanterns and lamps fueled by kerosene. The journey to electrify Chandameta, however, was not without its challenges. The vast and dispersed population, coupled with the village’s remote location, posed hurdles in extending power lines.

Addressing the issue of solar panels, Mr. Dayaram explained, “Initial attempts were made to provide them. However, the inaccessibility of the area hindered regular service and monitoring, rendering these efforts futile.” Nevertheless, the recent electrification project has successfully illuminated every house in all five paras (sectors) of the village.

The impact of this transformation is being felt beyond the glow of electric bulbs. A resident highlighted the profound changes in access to clean drinking water. Previously forced to use water from drains and Jhiriya, the installation of solar pumps and electricity has now made pure underground water accessible, alleviating health concerns associated with unclean sources.

AMBA BHAVAN

The inauguration of the new Anganwadi centre, called Amba Bhavan, added a touch of jubilation to Chandameta’s story of progress. Collector Dayaram, adopting a heartwarming tradition, invited the children of the village to inaugurate the centre – a symbol of a brighter future. The joyous occasion not only celebrated the provision of education and nourishment for the young ones but also reflected the community’s unity and optimism.

Chandameta, once veiled in darkness and overshadowed by the specter of Naxalism, is now emerging as a beacon of development. As electricity lights up homes and the wheels of progress gain momentum, the villagers stand as testament to the power of resilience and the transformative impact of dedicated efforts. In the words of Mr. Dayaram, “Nothing can bring better happiness than this.”
