Indian Masterminds Stories

Deeksha Chourasiya, who secured All India Rank 44 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, has emerged as an inspiration for thousands of aspirants across the country. Born and brought up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Deeksha’s journey reflects the importance of discipline, self-awareness, and a well-planned strategy in one of India’s toughest examinations.

Coming from an academically inclined family, Deeksha was introduced to the idea of public service from a young age. Her father is a chartered accountant, while her mother is a homeopathic doctor. She completed her schooling from DPS Indore and later pursued History (Honours) from Miranda House, University of Delhi.

Her success in the UPSC CSE 2025 did not come overnight. It was the result of four attempts, two Mains appearances, and years of focused preparation.

EARLY MOTIVATION BEHIND UPSC DREAM

For Deeksha, the dream of joining the civil services was deeply personal. It began with her mother, who had once aspired to pursue a career in the civil services herself.

Speaking with Indian Masterminds about the inspiration behind her journey, Deeksha said, “The dream of becoming an IAS officer was first seeded by my mother, who herself aspired to pursue civil services.”

Over time, this aspiration turned into a clear life goal. Deeksha realised that civil servants have the ability to bring real change at the grassroots level. The opportunity to work closely with communities, address public issues, and contribute to nation-building became the driving force behind her UPSC preparation.

She believes that serving the country is not only a responsibility but also a privilege.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND

Deeksha completed her schooling from DPS Indore, where she developed a strong academic foundation. Later, she moved to Delhi for higher education and studied History (Honours) at Miranda House, one of the leading colleges under the University of Delhi.

Her background in history later helped her choose History as her optional subject in UPSC. Since she already had an academic understanding of the subject, it gave her confidence and familiarity during preparation.

Apart from academics, Deeksha was also actively involved in extracurricular activities during college. She served as the Vice President of the History Department, which gave her leadership experience and added value to her Detailed Application Form (DAF).

UPSC ATTEMPS AND PREPARATION JOURNEY

Deeksha cleared UPSC CSE 2025 in her fourth attempt. It was also her second appearance in the Mains examination.

Like many aspirants, she faced setbacks in earlier attempts. However, instead of losing confidence, she focused on understanding her weaknesses and improving her strategy.

She explained, “Given the vast syllabus, I broke it down into achievable daily, weekly, and monthly targets.

This simple but effective approach helped her maintain consistency throughout her preparation journey. Every day was planned in advance, and she ensured that revision was a mandatory part of her schedule.

According to Deeksha, productivity and discipline played a major role in her success. She consciously reduced distractions and used the YPT app to track her study hours and maintain consistency.

For her second Mains attempt, she shifted her focus toward value addition in answers. Instead of writing generic responses, she worked on including examples, case studies, committee recommendations, and multidimensional analysis in her General Studies papers.

This approach helped her stand out among thousands of candidates.

COACHING, OPTIONAL SUBJECT AND ANSWER WRITING STRATEGY

Deeksha did not rely entirely on classroom coaching. She opted for online courses but made sure that her answer-writing practice happened in an offline environment.

She chose History as her optional subject because of her academic background and interest in the discipline.

For answer writing and evaluation, she joined test series. Regular writing practice, timely feedback, and repeated revisions helped her improve the structure and quality of her answers.

She focused not only on content but also on presentation. Using headings, subheadings, diagrams wherever needed, and balanced arguments made her answers more effective.

THE EMOTIONAL MOMENT OF SUCCESS

The moment Deeksha found out about her UPSC result is something she will always remember.

She was alone at home when she received a phone call from her mentor. At that point, she had not yet checked the result herself.

Recalling that emotional moment, she said, “I immediately asked, ‘Sir, what’s the rank?’ He replied, ‘44.’ In that moment, I couldn’t hold back my tears.

After years of preparation, sacrifices, and uncertainty, securing AIR 44 was a moment of immense joy for both Deeksha and her family.

UPSC INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE

Deeksha described her UPSC interview as an enriching and engaging experience. Rather than feeling like a stressful formal interaction, it felt more like a meaningful conversation.

The interview panel asked her several questions based on her background, interests, and hobbies.

One of the unexpected questions was about a painting displayed in the interview room. She was also asked to deliver a two-minute speech on Atmanirbharta.

Since she has a Visharad degree in Kathak, many questions were also related to Indian culture, dance, and heritage.

Her hobbies include painting and charcoal sketching, which also became topics of discussion during the interview.

The panel further explored her leadership experience as Vice President of the History Department in college.

Her interview experience highlights the importance of preparing DAF-based questions thoroughly. Candidates who are confident about their own journey, interests, and achievements are often able to perform better in the personality test.

IMPORTANCE OF HOBBIES AND PERSONALITY IN UPSC

One of the interesting aspects of Deeksha Chourasiya’s profile is the balance she maintained between academics and hobbies.

Her Visharad degree in Kathak, along with her interest in painting and charcoal sketching, added depth to her personality.

In UPSC, hobbies are not just fillers in the DAF. They can become important talking points in the interview and help candidates showcase creativity, discipline, and individuality.

Deeksha’s journey shows that aspirants should not ignore their passions while preparing for the examination.

MESSAGE FOR ASPIRANTS

Deeksha believes that success in UPSC is not only about reading the right books. Since most aspirants study from similar sources, what really matters is how an individual differentiates themselves.

She advises aspirants to identify their strengths and focus on what makes them unique.

Consistency, sincerity, and self-awareness, according to her, are the key ingredients for success.

She believes that aspirants do not need to become overly serious during preparation. Instead, they should remain sincere and committed to their goals.

Her journey from Indore to AIR 44 in UPSC CSE 2025 is a reminder that success is possible with clear planning, regular revision, answer writing practice, and belief in oneself.

For aspirants preparing for UPSC 2026 and beyond, Deeksha Chourasiya’s story offers practical lessons that can make a real difference in their preparation journey.
