Jammu: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), through its Northern Region-II headquarters in Jammu, has handed over a War Heroes Gallery at the War Museum & Pahadi Culture Centre in Tangdhar, Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, to the Indian Army.
The initiative has been undertaken as part of POWERGRID’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and aims to preserve the military heritage of the strategically important Tangdhar region while commemorating the courage and sacrifices of soldiers who served in the area.
POWERGRID Hands Over War Heroes Gallery to Indian Army
The gallery was formally handed over by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director (ED), POWERGRID Northern Region-II, during a function held at Tangdhar.

- Senior officials of POWERGRID
- Representatives of the Indian Army
The handover marks an important step towards preserving the military history and heritage associated with Tangdhar.
Gallery Highlights Tangdhar’s Military Heritage
The POWERGRID War Heroes Gallery has been developed in collaboration with the Indian Army.
The gallery documents and showcases the military heritage and strategic significance of the Tangdhar region. It also pays tribute to the soldiers who defended the nation’s frontiers and made sacrifices in the line of duty.
The facility is intended to give visitors an insight into the region’s military history and help preserve the legacy of its war heroes.
CSR Project Completed at ₹20 Lakh Cost
The gallery was developed under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between POWERGRID and the Indian Army.
The CSR project was completed at a cost of ₹20 lakh.
Located near the Line of Control (LoC), the gallery is expected to serve as a space where visitors can learn about the military history and strategic importance of Tangdhar.
The initiative also reflects POWERGRID’s efforts to undertake CSR projects that address community needs while preserving the cultural and historical heritage of areas where the organisation operates.
Focus on Educating the Younger Generation
The gallery is aimed at creating greater awareness about the role and contribution of the Armed Forces, particularly among younger generations.
By showcasing the region’s military heritage and the sacrifices of soldiers, the initiative seeks to strengthen awareness of:
- The strategic importance of Tangdhar.
- The military history of the region.
- The courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
- The role of the Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s frontiers.
