With death and destruction looming over the country, the second wave of coronavirus is stronger and harsher than ever. People who are staying inside their homes are contracting the virus too. During such a hard hitting time, the diligent and hardworking police officers of our country are sweating out on the streets, trying to get people to follow Covid-19 guidelines and motivating them to stay in their homes.

They are making way and helping as many people as possible in acquiring oxygen cylinders, medicines, and the necessary items.

DELHI COPS RUSH TO SAVE LIVES

During the weekend curfew, police personnel of Delhi proved to be a messiah for numerous people. When they received a call from Mansa Ram Hospital in Nangloi near Delhi stating that they had 35 critical Covid patients and just an hour of oxygen supply left, additional DCP Mr. Sudhanshu Dhama rushed teams to Mundka and Bawana. The cops arranged for 20 cylinders and rushed them to the hospital in the nick of time. The hospital staff was left speechless with the endeavor.

In another instance, when the kin of a 67 year old Covid positive patient informed SHO of Bharat Nagar, Mr. Mohar Singh that they could not arrange for the Remdisivir injections in Bhopal, the SHO immediately arranged for five vials of medicine and got it airlifted to Bhopal to save the life of the old man. According to reports, the condition of the man is now stable, all thanks to the police officer.

When Delhiite Gaurav Bagga contacted Kalkaji Police Station to acquire oxygen for a critical family member, he received immediate help from the police personnel.

Beat officer, Devendra became a savior to retired English Literature Professor of Delhi University residing in the New Friends Colony, when he managed to deliver the required medicines to the professor’s home as he failed to acquire them.

Constable Babulal became a hero when he issued a movement pass and urgently delivered it at the doorstep of an 85 year old retired IAS officer who needed to go to a hospital.

In such a harassing time, the police personnel also insured that no one went hungry and anyone who approached for food was given the necessary items. When a daily wage worker called up the police for some food as she had exhausted her ration and was living without food for two days, the staff immediately arranged ration like flour, rice and oil and delivered it to her.

Another family in Kalkaji that had been tested positive and was under home isolation and since unable to get food received immediate help from the police.

There are hundreds of instances such as these where we get to see the human face of police personnel and how they are lending their hand to the ones in need. Police Commissioner of Delhi Mr. SN Srivastava states, “Restrictions have to be enforced strictly in the interest of public health and safety while people in difficulties and emergencies are to be facilitated too. Delhi Police is executing their responsibilities in the best possible manner.”

PAN INDIA FIGHT AGAINST THE VIRUS

Inspector General of Police in Bastar Chhattisgarh, Mr. Sundarraj Pattilingam stated, “We can’t restrict our activities and simultaneously have to look after the people and medical arrangements, as well. We are strengthening public-police relationship in these times. I believe that the condition right now is not very good, but it’s also not very bad. We are doing as much as we can.”

Superintendent of Police in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, Mr. Jimmy Chiram says, “The main focus is on people coming to the state from outside. The cases are increasing per day and we are focused on monitoring and testing the people coming from other states. As of now, the situation is under control in Arunachal Pradesh and all the guidelines are being followed.”

IPS officer, Mr. Bhaskar Rao, ADGP, Railways and Nodal Covid Control officer of Northern Range, Belgaum, Karnataka, says, “Our borders touch Maharashtra, where the Covid cases are highest and the migrating population comes in large numbers. We are screening and testing these people continuously. The situation is quite bad and we are at the peak of cases. There is shortage of beds and oxygen cylinders in the hospitals. We are doing what we can.”

Civil officer Mr. N Uday Reddy, DSP of Utnoor in Adilabad district, Telangana, stated, “We are focusing on saving the tribals from the pandemic. As our district does not have any big and proper medical hospitals, we are trying to keep them safe from the virus otherwise the condition might become worse. As of now, the situation is under control.”

Police personnel from all across the country are trying their best to provide us with an easy life and are taking all the measures in their capacity to curb the spread of the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.

LATHIS FOR THE INDISCIPLINED

When the police are showing humanity and doing everything that they can do on their behalf, it is also our duty to obey the guidelines and follow the rules. However, not everyone does the same as stated and for these special ones, police also has to take hard steps, in order to keep them inside their homes.

The Superintendent of Police in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Sachin Sharma took his team on bikes into the streets of the district, to teach a lesson or two to anyone who wasn’t following the curfew guidelines and was found roaming aimlessly on the streets.

He planned to strictly deal with the ones who were out on the streets for absolutely no reason and were not wearing masks. The officer picked up his `lathi’ and thrashed the defaulters to make them understand the importance of wearing a mask outdoors. He also made them hold their ears through their legs till they agreed to obey. At times, police personnel need to take drastic changes for citizens to obey and listen.
