Delhi Police has an audio podcast named ‘Kissa Khaki Ka’ running successfully for some time now, where police persons get a platform to be heard. However, after 1996-batch IPS officer Suman Nalwa took over as PRO, she launched a video podcast too, and named it ‘Rise With Khaki’. The very first one garnered more than a million views within few days of its upload.

Ms. Nalwa herself hosts the podcast, joining one police person every week on camera to talk about their inspiring journeys.

Speaking to Indian Masterminds, Delhi Police PRO and official spokesperson, Ms. Suman Nalwa, IPS, gave more details about ‘Rise With Khaki’.

Khaki is not just about Law and Lathi: Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa, IPS

FROM AUDIO TO VIDEO

The video podcast was started because Ms. Nalwa wanted the police person behind the inspiring stories to not only be heard, but also be seen. The audio podcast, Kissa Khaki Ka, has been a hit and she decided to explore the idea further by making videos. The first video podcast was made on Delhi Police Head Constable Ram Bhajan who has cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022 and has joined Indian Information Service (IIS). She brought him in front of the camera and asked questions about his remarkable success and the struggle and hard work that helped him to achieve it. It was an instant hit and garnered over a million hits within few days of its upload.

Ms. Nalwa said, “People identify police as an organisation. They never really see the persons wearing the uniform. Each police person has a unique story to tell. They might be struggling in their personal lives, but they still report for duty in their khaki uniform. I wanted to show the person behind that uniform. People should know that khaki is not just about law and lathi. The person wearing it will have so many inspiring personal experiences to narrate.”

RISE WITH KHAKI

Hence, ‘Rise With Khaki’ was launched with the tagline, “An inspiring journey of our jawan”. The first episode was aired on 3 June at 5 pm. It featured Delhi Police Head Constable Ram Bhajan, where he shared about his journey from a struggling aspirant to a UPSC achiever. After Mr. Bhajan, she had invited Head Constable Amit, a light of hope in the lives of many children. Then Head Constable Amit Phogat and Constable Ravinder Dhariwal, who have both donated blood more than 100 times, took the stage. They were followed by Driver HC Rajiv Kumar who had clinched gold in men’s 25 metres standard pistol at a shooting championship in Bhopal. After that was the turn of ACP Sunil Kumari, who fought multiple sclerosis, and the latest episode was on DCP North Delhi, Mr. Sagar Singh Kalsi, whose Operation Talash resulted in reuniting hundreds of missing persons with their families.

ABOUT THE NAME

Ms. Nalwa revealed that it was actually her husband who came up with the name for the podcast. “I was narrating the stories of our achievers who I was planning to feature on the video podcast to my husband and friends and also discussing about names for the show. My husband then said that the show should be named ‘Rise with Khaki’ as it will not just inspire police personnel but all people of society.”

The objective of the video podcast is to show that police persons have many other shades to them other than khaki. That they also fight many battles on the personal level beneath their stoic demeanour. Currently, ‘Rise with Khaki’ is on hold for a few days as Ms. Nalwa is tied up with G-20 responsibilities. But, she said that she will be back with a new episode featuring one more achiever from her department soon. Till then, followers of Delhi Police social media handles can enjoy the interesting audio podcast series, ‘Kissa Khaki Ka’.
