Healthy, fresh food is what all office goers crave, but only a few fortunate ones are able to get it. A 2012-batch IRS officer, Mr. Aadesh Rai, currently posted as the Joint Commissioner TDS in Bhopal, has ensured that everyone in the Aaykar Bhawan gets to eat right.

FSSAI-EAT-RIGHT AWARD

Under the guidance of Pr.CCIT and the efforts made by the officer, the headquarter has officially become the first Income Tax office of India to be awarded the FSSAI-Eat Right award by the FSSAI. The Aayakar Bhawan Campus at Arera Hills, Bhopal has been awarded 5 stars and an “Excellent” Rating by FSSAI which gives it the rare distinction of becoming the first such campus in the Income tax department across the country.

“I realised that safe, healthy, and sustainably produced food offered here will lower the prevalence of foodborne infections, deficiency disorders, and non-communicable diseases in the department. This translates into fewer absences and improved employee motivation, well-being, and productivity,” Mr. Rai told Indian Masterminds in an exclusive conversation.

Healthy food would also reduce the financial burden on the employees’ healthcare expenses. He feels this would help the organization financially in the long run. The Aayakar Canteen in Bhopal is now registered with FSSAI and has a license for food catering services since they have established benchmarks for promoting awareness and providing safe, healthy, and sustainable food.

COMPASSIONATE APPOINTMENT

Under the direction of former Principal Chief Commissioners (Pr. CCIT) Parneet Sachdeva, Lekha Kumar, and R.K. Paliwal, Mr. Rai finished the long-delayed compassionate appointment work in which 25 candidates were appointed for open positions within just five months of his posting as the Deputy Commissioner, Headquarters of the Pr.CCIT, MP &CG.

He then forwarded the applications of 27 more individuals, along with recommendations to the CBDT, New Delhi, for the award of relaxation, which benefited many of the underprivileged families of ex-department employees, making it the largest compassionate appointment ever made in MP & CG in a year. To guarantee system transparency, the officer directly chose and appointed as Tax Assistants all qualified meritorious students who had filed for compassionate appointment.

“Mr. Mohanish Verma, the current Pr.CCIT is carrying on the work. Commissioner Mr. Rajkumar Ghosh, Additional Commissioner Mr. Sanjay Kumar, and Mr. Nitin Jadhav have also made major contributions,” Mr. Rai shared in an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds.

GUIDING ASPIRANTS

Mr. Rai works for not only his department but also for the many individuals who hope to pass the UPSC CSE. He has preserved his study materials and notes from when he was studying for the exam. He converts the notes into soft copies and distributes them to aspiring students. He also helps them in every way he can.

In 2004, the officer received the Super Brain Super Personality Youth Intellectual Award from one of the country’s leading career magazines.
