In recent years, drug addiction among the youth of the country has increased quite rapidly. The But there are some people who are constantly fighting this big social evil at their level and bringing all round awareness. One such person is IPS officer Mr Kumar Ashish, the SP of Kishanganj district of Bihar.
This young officer has waged a war against drugs in the entire district. Almost every day, Mr. Ashish takes some time out from his hectic routine to reach out to the youth and make them aware about dangers of falling prey to drugs and drug addiction. Along with this, where they feel necessary, he and his staff also take strict legal action.
This campaign by Mr. Ashish, a 2012 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre, is also running successfully and has had a very positive impact on the youth of the area. In order to make the younger generation aware of drug menace, the officer goes to the villages and schools in remote areas of Kishanganj district in his spare time. There he tells common people about the very ambitious scheme of the Bihar government on liquor and drug ban. The result of Mr. Ashish’s efforts is that now youth, school students, parents and enlightened citizens of the society have also started participating in his campaign.
WHY WAS THE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED?
While interacting with Indian Masterminds, Mr Ashish says, “We are putting in efforts to inspire the young generation who are addicted to drugs in the society, to make them give up the addiction. And trust me, the response is positive. If we save the people at the right time before they fall in the grip of drugs, then it will not be less than any great service to our country. In my opinion, anything which makes your body feel tempted and which causes pain to the body, is called intoxication. Dangerous intoxicants like charas, smack, cocaine, brown sugar, alcohol, ganja, bhang, opium, zarda, gutkha, tobacco and smoking (bidi, cigarette, hookah, chillum) are being used in the society for intoxication.”
THE FIGURES
Mr Ashish also provided some statistics to Indian Masterminds, which pointed to the success of their efforts. According to him, if we look at the figures from January 2018 to July 2021, then 1070 cases related to prohibition were registered and a total of 1194 people were arrested and sent to jail. In 5 cases, the accused have also been sentenced by the courts. Speedy trial is also going on in 25 cases of liquor.
APPEAL
Mr Ashish, in a touching appeal to the youth of the country, says, “It is indeed a matter of grave concern that the youth whom we consider to be the power and future of our country, has been caught by the venom of drugs. If any person cooperates with the police in the ‘Purna Nasha Bandi’ campaign, they will also be suitably rewarded.’’
Furthermore, the officer states that the usefulness of an intoxicated person to the society and nation becomes zero. He turns from intoxication to crime and becomes a curse for a peaceful society. So the sooner this addiction is given up, the better for everyone.
