India celebrated its 77th Independence Day, marking 76 years of freedom, on 15th August, 2023. As the world’s largest democracy, the great nation paid its tribute to India’s freedom fighters and leaders who fought for freedom and sacrificed their lives.
The theme for this year’s celebration was, ‘Nation First, Always First’, an integral part of the broader ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration. The whole nation also participated in ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which encourages the public to participate in the flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15, our Independence Day.
After India’s independence in the midnight of 14-15 August, the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort. He also gave his famous ‘Tryst with Destiny’ speech from the rampart of this famous fort. Along with the independence of India, the country also got the national flag, which is known as the tricolor. Since then it has been an ongoing tradition to unfurl the tricolour in the Red Fort ramparts.
India’s bureaucrats also celebrated in the same spirit that has shaped our diverse land into a thriving democracy. They did not only hoisted the tricolour at their workplaces, but also sent out some thoughtful messages to the public.
