In an exclusive interview to Indian Masterminds, the Police Commissioner of Rachakonda region, Telangana, Mr. Mahesh Murlidhar Bhagwat, revealed that out of the total of 761 candidates who cleared UPSC CS 2020 examination, 131 were under his mentorship. The senior IPS officer provides free guidance to civil service aspirants from all over the country.
A PROUD MENTOR
Over the years, Mr. Bhagwat has guided and helped thousands of candidates from across the country. This time, more than 131 candidates mentored by him cracked the Civil Services Examination,scoring good marks.
A total of 761 candidates were recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for appointment to posts including Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ through the Civil Services Exam 2020.Out of these 761 candidates, 131 were mentored by the officer himself!
“I am very proud of my students, and at the same time, I express my gratitude to all the mentors and educationists who have worked with me.Ours is not a commercial initiative. We just wish to help the candidates who struggle to clear this exam. Our target is to help them, boost their confidence, and prepare them for their personality development test,” Mr. Bhagwat told Indian Masterminds.
ONLINE INTERACTION
The officer and his team used to continuously interact with the aspirants through Zoomor WhatsApp calls.
“Many sessions were organized for them on different topics like International Relations, Current Affairs, IAS/IPS, Governance, etc. I’d specially like to acknowledge Dr. Shailendra Devdenkar, an International Relations expert from JNU, who conducted about 13 sessions on this topic on Zoom,” he said.
Mr. Bhagwat also initiated one-to-one interaction with candidates, where exam preparation tips and strategies were discussed to make the path easy for them.
FOCUS ON WRITING APPLICATION FORM
Mr. Bhagwat informed that he focused on helping the students with the written application forms that they submit to UPSC, on the basis of which their interview was conducted.
“I prepared them for their personality test where numerous questions are asked related to their lives. We provided them with exam-oriented guidance.”

MESSAGE FOR HIS STUDENTS
Mr. Bhagwat always reminds his students that success should not go to the head and failures should not go to the heart.
For all those who could not clear the examination this year, and this was their last attempt, Mr. Bhagwat has this to say, “Don’t lose heart as something big is waiting for you. UPSC is not the end of the tunnel, and you can do much more in life.”
And for those who can still attempt, he advises them to see their marks and analyze what went wrong so that they can work on their weak areas to do better next time.
The officer also had a message for the successful candidates: “Remain grounded always. And be compassionate and confident in whatever you do in life.”
