A visionary administrator, an economist of distinction, and a leader committed to public service – Sri K. Jairaj’s 36-year journey in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is a testament to dedication and impact. From heading the Bangalore City Corporation twice to holding key positions in Karnataka’s transport, taxation, and power sectors, he left an indelible mark on governance.

In his book JaithraYathre, Jairaj chronicles his experiences, attributing his journey to the dream his grandfather envisioned for him. Speaking to Indian Masterminds, he reflected on the true essence of the IAS. “It’s easy to get transferred 40 times, but the IAS is not about that. It’s about getting things done and creating an impact,” he said, dismissing the idea of taking pride in frequent transfers as a badge of honesty.

Jairaj’s leadership extended beyond administration. His tenure as MD of Bangalore International Airport Ltd. and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. demonstrated his ability to spearhead transformative projects. Recognized with numerous accolades, including the Rajiv Gandhi National Excellence Award and Citizen Extraordinary Award by Rotary Club, his contributions have been widely celebrated.

Post-retirement, he continues to shape policy and thought leadership, serving as Chairman of the Bangalore Advisory Council and holding key roles in institutions like IIM Kashipur and Bangalore GayanaSamaja. His career is not just a bureaucratic success story but an inspiration—proving that integrity and action can coalesce to drive meaningful change.
