Renowned as the ‘City of Lights,’ Varanasi was further adorned with ornamental lights, traditional earthen lamps, and fragrant blossoms in honor of Dev Deepawali. Nestled on the western bank of the Ganges River and celebrated against the backdrop of its iconic ghats, the city observes Dev Deepawali during this season to commemorate the Devas’ rejoicing in Diwali following Lord Shiva’s triumph over the demon Tripurasura. This festival is intricately connected with Prabhodini Ekadashi and signifies the conclusion of Chaturmas, a four-month period during which Lord Vishnu is believed to enter a profound state of sleep.

The city once again became a witness to the historical scenes. Lakhs of people reached the Ghats of Varanasi to see the beautiful sights of lights. Chief Development Officer of Varanasi, Himanshu Nagpal IAS in conversation with Indian Masterminds shared, “Diplomats from 70 countries attended the event.” He further informed that 12 lakh Diyas were lit up on the occasion.

On the eve of Dev Deepawali, the night sky came alive with a breathtaking exhibition of fireworks and laser displays, symbolizing the celestial transformation of the ghats adorned with hundreds of thousands of Diyas across 85 ghats.
