Limited Opportunities for IPS Officers as Only Seven from 1992 Batch Make Cut for Top Posts

Two more officers - Hemant Priyadarshy and Jitender - have been empaneled to hold DG equivalent post only
Indian Masterminds Stories

Less and less Indian Police Service (IPS) officials are getting empaneled at the rank of additional director general (ADG) and director general (DG). Latest is 1992 batch where only seven IPS officers – Pankaj Saxena, Satish Golcha, Nalin Prabhat, Sapna Tiwari, B Srinivasan, Rajesh Nirwan and Anand Swaroop – have been empaneled to hold the DG or DG equivalent post at the centre.

Two more officers – Hemant Priyadarshy and Jitender – have been empaneled to hold DG equivalent post only. Notable omissions are Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and Assam Special DGP Harmeet Singh. Both Yadav and Singh were not promoted as ADG in the first list when it was issued in August 2021 but they made the cut in February 2023 as ADG along with Satish Golcha whose name was missing in 2021 list.

Now Golcha has made the cut in the first list as DG but Singh and Yadav have been left out. But Yadav is already Punjab DGP, the top post on the state, and Harmeet Singh in all likelihood will be next Assam DGP, whenever the incumbent GP Singh comes back to centre on deputation.
