Former Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua was appointed by the Centre as Chairperson of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Jishnu Barua will succeed PK Pujari, whose extended tenure at the CERC ended in June 2022. For nearly eight months after his term ended, the CERC was without a chief, until Barua’s appointment was announced.
The Union Power Ministry proposed Jishnu Barua as the new chairperson of CERC, which was approved and notified by the Cabinet Appointments Committee on February 23.
Barua retired as Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam in August last year. He was appointed to the position in October 2020. Prior to that, he had worked in various capacities in both Assam and the central government.
