A 1988-batch IPS officer from Rajasthan cadre, Pankaj Kumar Singh was appointed the Director-General of Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday. He is currently serving as the Special Director General of the force that guards over 6,300 km of the Indian fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to reports, he will take charge as the chief of the BSF on August 31, 2021, and his tenure will last till his superannuation on December 31, 2022. He will take over after the retirement of IPS officer and Indo-Tibetian Border Police Director General SS Deswal, who is holding additional charge of the BSF Director General after the tenure of Gujarat cadre officer Rakesh Asthana which ended in July.
Pankaj Kumar Singh is the son of retired IPS officer Prakash Singh who is a Padma Shri recipient and nearly three decades ago the same post was held by him as well. He is known for introducing several police reforms during his tenure.
