The First Women IPS and DGP of Kerala, Ms. Sreelekha Retires From Service

After an outstanding career of 33 years, Ms. R. Sreelekha IPS announced her retirement from service on Thursday, 31 December.

1987-batch IPS officer, Ms. R Sreelekha retired from service after being elevated from the post of DGP of Kerala Fire And Rescue Services seven months ago. She is not only the first women IPS officer from Kerala but she also became the first DGP there.

In her 33 years of service, she held many key positions in the state as she started as the Superintendent of Police (SP) at Cherthala in Alappuzha district. She also got her posting in Thrissur, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts as an SP. She also held positions like Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) at the crime branch, Inspector General of Police (IG) and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

Apart from this, she also held the position of Transport Commissioner from 2013 to 2015 and headed the Prisons and Correctional Services Department as ADGP.
