The state of Madhya Pradesh is preparing to induct 21 officers into the All India Services (AIS) through promotions, with 16 from the State Administrative Service (SAS) set to become IAS officers and 5 from the State Police Service likely to join the IPS cadre. The promotion process is expected to be completed by the second week of June, following the upcoming Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting to be convened by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Non-SAS Officers Still Awaiting IAS Entry
Officers from other state services (non-SAS) will again miss out on IAS promotion in 2025. The Madhya Pradesh government has not framed rules for inducting non-SAS officers. The last such promotion was in 2016, and out of those four officers, three have retired, and the last will retire in July 2025. In contrast, the Rajasthan government has recently proposed the elevation of four non-SAS officers, pending with the Centre.
Promotion Process Overview
- State government forwards list of eligible officers to UPSC
- UPSC Chairperson nominates a member to the DPC
- The DPC meeting (with Chief Secretary) finalizes the names
- Recommendations go to the DoPT
- Final appointments are made via official notification
The upcoming DPC meetings in June will be critical for filling longstanding vacancies and strengthening the administrative and police leadership in Madhya Pradesh.
