New Delhi: In a significant development for the Punjab Police cadre, four Indian Police Service (IPS) officers have been empaneled by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for appointment to Director General of Police (DGP) or equivalent positions in central government organizations. This move expands the representation of Punjab cadre officers at the highest echelons of police leadership at the national level.
Four Officers from 1994 Batch Make the Cut
The officers empaneled include:
- AS Rai, Special Director General of Police (Traffic)
- Praveen Kumar Sinha, Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau and Intelligence Chief
- Anita Punj, Director of the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur
- S. Srivastava, Special Director General of Police (Security)
All four belong to the 1994 batch of the Indian Police Service and bring extensive experience from their respective specialized fields.
Breaking New Ground for Punjab Cadre
Until now, Gaurav Yadav, the current DGP of Punjab, was the only officer from the state cadre empaneled as a DGP at the Centre. With this recent empanelment, Punjab’s presence in central deputation at the DGP level significantly strengthens.
The empanelment of IPS officers at the Centre is widely viewed as a prestigious professional milestone. It not only opens avenues for officers to hold critical leadership roles in central security and intelligence agencies but also highlights the Centre’s recognition of their merit and service.

Significance of Empanelment
Central empanelment is a competitive process where officers from various state cadres are shortlisted to be eligible for the highest-ranking police posts in the Government of India. These postings often include leadership roles in agencies such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other paramilitary and central police organizations.
The inclusion of four officers from Punjab in this elite list signals the state’s growing contribution to the national policing framework.
