In a major achievement for the tribal students of Telangana, as many as 706 from the Telangana Social and Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutes (TTWREIS) have qualified for this year’s Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains. A big credit for this goes to the senior IPS officer Dr R S Praveen Kumar. Having dedicated his career to the uplift of poor and underprivileged students, he is on the steering wheel of the institute as its secretary.
This year, highest number of students ever have qualified for the JEE from TTWREIS, compared to 506 in 2019.
Mr Kumar is at the helm of affairs of two institutes in Telganaga: TTWREIS and Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Society. Run by the state government, the two institutes have emerged as major pillars of support for the students coming from poor families and hailing from SC and ST categories.
Under the guidance of Dr Kumar, the students of these institutes have, over the years, have not only cracked UPSC in large number but also gained admission in some of the top medical, engineering and management colleges to India.
Sharing his thoughts with the media, Dr Kumar said that one of the big factors in the students’ success was “generous grants of funds by the State Government, and the vision of Chief Minister Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao.’’
At the same time, said Dr Kumar, “the credit also goes to committed teachers for their hard work in helping students from remote villages and tribal hamlets to secure admission in top-notch IITs and NITs in large numbers every year.
Dr Kumar’s own life journey is truly remarkable. A few days ago, we at Indian Masterminds had done a detailed piece on the miracles which he has brought about in the lives of the underprivileged Telangana students. Here is the link to that feature:
