In a tragic turn of events, Shaurya, a Namibian cheetah translocated to Kuno National Park as part of the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, passed away on Tuesday. The tracking team observed signs of incoordination and a staggering gait in the morning, leading to the decision to tranquilize Shaurya.

Despite efforts to revive the animal, complications arose post-revival, and the cheetah did not respond to CPR. The cause of death remains uncertain and will be determined through a post-mortem examination.

The Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of the Lion Project expressed the sorrowful incident, highlighting the challenges faced in preserving these majestic creatures.

Since March 2023, a total of seven adult cheetahs and three cubs born in India have succumbed to various reasons, raising concerns about the well-being of the feline population in Kuno National Park.Under the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, initiated in September 2022, eight Namibian cheetahs were relocated to the park, followed by an additional 12 cheetahs from South Africa in February 2023.
