Jammu: A group of 26 probationary Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 77th Regular Recruit (RR) batch of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, visited the Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters on Wednesday. The officers called on Director General of Police (DGP) Shri Nalin Prabhat and held an interactive session with him and other senior officers of the force.
During their visit, the young officers were given an in-depth overview of the operational dynamics and multifaceted challenges faced by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, especially in counter-terrorism, law and order maintenance, and public safety in one of the country’s most sensitive regions.
A Firsthand Insight into Policing in a Conflict Zone
DGP Nalin Prabhat welcomed the probationers and highlighted the exemplary role of the J&K Police in maintaining internal security and combating terrorism over the years. He elaborated on the department’s resilience, professionalism, and innovative strategies used in intelligence gathering, counter-insurgency operations, and community engagement.
“The experience of policing in Jammu and Kashmir is unique and highly demanding. Officers here have demonstrated dedication and bravery in dealing with militancy, narco-terrorism, and cross-border threats. I hope your visit gives you a valuable perspective on policing in such challenging environments,” said the DGP.
Exposure to Field Realities
Senior officers of the J&K Police also briefed the IPS probationers on operational procedures, use of technology in modern policing, and coordination between state and central security forces. The interaction aimed to provide real-time exposure to young officers on the ground realities of internal security management in a conflict-prone zone.
The probationers, currently undergoing Phase II training at the academy, expressed keen interest in the functioning of the J&K Police and appreciated the department’s efforts in maintaining peace, promoting development, and fostering public trust in the region.
Strengthening Future Leadership
Visits like these are part of the IPS training curriculum designed to expose probationers to diverse field situations across India. Observing the operations in Jammu and Kashmir serves as an invaluable learning experience for young officers who may be posted in complex regions in their future careers.
The interaction concluded with a group photo session and a token of appreciation presented to the DGP by the visiting officers.
