Mumbai: In a major administrative reshuffle, the Maharashtra government has transferred eight senior IPS officers, marking a continued wave of changes in the state’s bureaucracy following the change in government.
2005 batch senior IPS officer Sharada Raut has been appointed as the Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the newly-formed Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). Raut was previously serving as the Joint Commissioner of the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Among the other key appointments, 2002 batch IPS officer Ravindra Shisve, who was serving as the Commissioner of Railway Police in Mumbai, has been posted as Joint Commissioner of the State Intelligence Department (SID). He replaces Sharada Vasant Nikam (Sharada Raut).
The appointments aim to enhance the operational effectiveness of the state’s police force across various domains.
Sharada Raut’s appointment follows her recent return from Central deputation at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Her new role aligns with the state government’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. In February, the Maharashtra cabinet approved the creation of 346 new posts in the ANTF, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening anti-narcotics operations.
In related other key transfers:
- Supriya Patil Yadav, 2004 batch IPS officer who recently returned from Central deputation, has been posted as Special IGP (Establishment) at the Maharashtra Police Headquarters.
- Navinchandra Reddy, Commissioner of Police in Amaravati City, has been transferred as Joint Commissioner of Police in Nagpur. Orders for his replacement are awaited.
- Nisar Tamboli, currently Joint Commissioner of Police in Nagpur, will now serve as Special IGP of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) in Nagpur, replacing Rajiv Jain, who has been moved to Coastal Security as Special IGP.
- Abhishek Trimukhe, Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region), has been transferred to the state police headquarters as Special IGP (Administration), replacing Arti Singh, who is currently awaiting her next assignment.
- Rajiv Jain has been moved to serve as Special IGP of Maritime (Coastal) Security.
Meanwhile, 2006 batch IPS officer Dr Arti Singh, a senior IPS officer currently serving as Special IGP (Administration), has also been transferred. However, the details of her new posting are yet to be officially announced.
The creation of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, which was approved earlier this year with 346 new posts, signifies a strategic push by the state to clamp down on narcotics operations. The recent reshuffle places experienced officers at the helm of various departments to boost administrative efficiency and law enforcement efforts.
These strategic transfers are aimed at reinforcing the law enforcement infrastructure across Maharashtra and ensuring experienced leadership in key security departments.
