942 Personnel Honored with Gallantry and Service Medals on Republic Day 2025

A total of 95 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, recognising their rare and conspicuous acts of valour in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals.

On the occasion of Republic Day 2025, a total of 942 personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services have been honoured with gallantry and service medals for their exceptional contributions and service to the nation.

Gallantry Medals

Medal for Gallantry (GM):
A total of 95 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, recognising their rare and conspicuous acts of valour in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crime, or apprehending criminals. Of these:

  • 28 personnel are from Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas.
  • 28 personnel from Jammu & Kashmir,
  • 3 personnel from the North-East, and
  • 36 personnel from other regions.

The awards include 78 Police Service personnel and 17 Fire Service personnel.

Service Medals

President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM):
This award, given for a special and distinguished record in service, has been conferred upon 101 personnel:

  • 85 from Police Service,
  • 5 from Fire Service,
  • 7 from Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and
  • 4 from the Correctional Service.

Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM):
Recognising valuable service marked by resourcefulness and devotion to duty, 746 personnel have received this medal:

  • 634 from Police Service,
  • 37 from Fire Service,
  • 39 from Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and
  • 36 from the Correctional Service.
