Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has reinstated senior 2006-batch IAS officer Abhishek Prakash as Secretary in the General Administration Department (GAD), nearly a year after his suspension. The officer had been on the waiting list following disciplinary proceedings linked to a complaint regarding an investment project during his tenure in the state’s investment promotion machinery.
Official Order and Posting Details
According to an official order issued by the state government, Abhishek Prakash has been posted as Secretary in the GAD with immediate effect. The department plays a critical role in government administration, including handling personnel management, inter-departmental coordination, policy implementation, and overall administrative supervision.
Officials highlighted that the posting marks the officer’s return to active administrative duties, restoring his role in the state secretariat after nearly 12 months without a formal assignment.
Background of Suspension
Abhishek Prakash was suspended on March 20, 2025, following a complaint linked to an investment project he oversaw during his tenure in the state’s investment promotion department. During the suspension period, he remained without a formal posting while departmental inquiries were conducted.
The disciplinary proceedings related to the earlier complaint are ongoing, but the government’s reinstatement order allows him to resume full administrative responsibilities while the process continues as per rules.
Significance of the Reinstatement
The reinstatement of Abhishek Prakash is being seen as a procedurally compliant move by the UP government, ensuring that officers complete their suspension periods or waiting list durations before resuming official duties.
His return to the General Administration Department brings experienced leadership to a key department responsible for coordinating across all state government functions, managing personnel postings, and supporting smooth policy implementation. Administrative observers note that this appointment will strengthen the department’s capacity to oversee the state’s bureaucratic machinery effectively.
