New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday approved the promotion of 33 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers of the AGMUT cadre to the Selection Grade, including 29 officers currently serving in the cadre and four officers on central deputation who were granted proforma promotion.
Promotion Effective Dates
The promotions will take effect from the dates specified against each officer’s name or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.
Notional Promotion: Phunchu Norbu Thungon and Sumedha Yadav (2012 batch) have been granted notional promotion with effect from January 1, 2025, with actual benefits admissible from the date they assume charge.
Selection Grade for Remaining Officers: Most officers from the 2013 batch will receive Selection Grade effective January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge.

About Selection Grade in IAS
The Selection Grade is a senior-level promotion in the IAS hierarchy, usually accorded after 14–16 years of service. Officers at this grade are entrusted with critical administrative responsibilities at both central and state levels, including policymaking, departmental leadership, and strategic governance.
