Kapurthala/Chandigarh: Akash Bansal, a 2019-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Punjab cadre, formally assumed charge as Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala district on Tuesday, setting out an administrative agenda centered on transparency, timely delivery of public services, and stronger implementation of welfare schemes.
He was welcomed at the District Administrative Complex with a ceremonial guard of honour before officially taking charge of the district administration.
During his first interaction with officials and staff, Bansal underlined that time-bound delivery of administrative services and transparent governance would remain central to his functioning as district head.
Focus on Transparent Administration and Timely Public Services
Soon after taking charge, Bansal stated that district administration must ensure citizens receive services without delay or procedural hurdles.
He stressed that welfare initiatives launched by the Punjab government should reach intended beneficiaries efficiently and without discrepancies at the grassroots level.
According to him, administrative transparency and regular monitoring are essential to improve trust between citizens and government institutions.
Development Projects to Be Closely Monitored
The new Deputy Commissioner also announced regular reviews of ongoing development projects across Kapurthala district.
He said all infrastructure and public development works would be monitored closely to ensure they are completed within fixed timelines.
Timely execution of projects, he noted, is critical for improving local infrastructure and accelerating district-level development.
Welfare Schemes to Receive Wider Outreach
Bansal identified several welfare schemes that require stronger public awareness and outreach. These include:
- Health insurance programmes
- Pilgrimage support schemes
- Free electricity benefits
He directed departmental officials to proactively inform eligible citizens so that maximum households can access benefits.
Public Grievance Redressal to Be Strengthened
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officers across departments to respond promptly to public complaints.
He said grievance redressal should be treated as a priority and officials must ensure complaints are resolved effectively rather than merely recorded.
Calls for Citizen Participation in Governance
Bansal also appealed to residents of Kapurthala district to actively cooperate with district administration.
He said constructive public suggestions would be welcomed and incorporated wherever feasible to improve governance outcomes.
