CSR initiative by National Fertilizers Limited benefits over 25,000 students, especially girls, improving health, hydration, and school attendance during summer
Indian Masterminds Stories

Delhi: Under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) has installed 56 water coolers with RO purifiers across 32 MCD schools in the Shahdara North Zone, Delhi. The project aims to provide safe and clean drinking water to over 25,000 students, particularly benefiting girl students during the hot summer months.

Inauguration Ceremonies Across Multiple Schools

The water coolers were inaugurated on April 6, 2026, at selected schools in Brahmpuri (Usmanpur Girls School), Bhajanpura, Ghonda (Gautam Vihar Girls School), and Yamuna Vihar (C4 Girls School).

The events were graced by Amit Kumar Sharma, IRS, CVO of NFL, along with municipal councillors and NFL officials. Girl students and school staff actively participated in the ceremonies, highlighting the project’s positive impact on the school community.

Project Rollout and Implementation

  • Each of the 32 MCD schools received at least one water cooler with RO purification, while some larger schools were provided multiple units.
  • A total of 56 units have been installed across the Shahdara North Zone.
  • The project ensures that students no longer have to carry water from home or rely on unsafe sources.

Background of the CSR Initiative

NFL identified a pressing need for clean drinking water in government schools, many of which lack proper water purification facilities. The Shahdara North Zone was chosen based on the concentration of MCD schools serving underprivileged communities, where summer dehydration risks are particularly high.

This initiative aligns with NFL’s CSR focus on health, hygiene, and education, ensuring that students have access to safe water, which supports both well-being and academic performance.

Benefits for Students and the School Community

  • Health and Safety: RO purifiers remove contaminants, reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.
  • Convenience: Students no longer need to carry heavy water bottles or leave classrooms to buy water.
  • Focus on Girls’ Education: Many girl students from low-income families previously faced hydration challenges. The initiative helps improve concentration, learning outcomes, and school attendance.
  • Community Impact: Municipal councillors praised the project as a timely intervention, especially during Delhi’s extreme summer temperatures. Parents feel reassured, supporting higher enrolment and lower dropout rates among girls.
