National Fertilizers Limited Appoints Mahesh Chander Gupta as Director (Finance) on Additional Charge

New Delhi: National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Government of India, has announced the appointment of Mr. Mahesh Chander Gupta as Director (Finance) on additional charge for a period of three months. The announcement comes through an official order issued by the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

Appointment Details and Term

As per Order No. 82/3/2013-HR PSU (e-28269), Mr. Mahesh Chander Gupta, who is currently serving as Director (Marketing) at NFL, has been entrusted with the additional responsibilities of the Director (Finance) post. This arrangement is effective immediately for three months or until a regular incumbent joins the post, or until further instructions are issued—whichever occurs first.

The assignment is subject to approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) through the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). NFL has formally informed the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE: NFL) and BSE Limited (523630) about the development, ensuring full compliance with regulatory norms.

Professional Background of Mr. Mahesh Chander Gupta

Mr. Mahesh Chander Gupta brings over 30 years of extensive experience in the energy, petrochemical, and fertilizer sectors. Before joining NFL, he served as Chief General Manager (Business Development – Gas) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), where he led natural gas sourcing and marketing operations. His tenure at IOCL saw significant contributions to expanding the natural gas business and establishing new petrochemical streams, including PTA and polymers, across domestic and international markets.

He is a Management Graduate from FMS, Udaipur, and a Cost & Management Accountant (Gold Medallist). Over his career, Mr. Gupta has held key leadership positions spanning petroleum marketing, petrochemicals, natural gas marketing, business development, and vigilance functions.

Strategic Role at NFL

In his expanded role, Mr. Gupta will oversee NFL’s financial strategy and support operational continuity during the interim period. As Director (Marketing), he has already driven growth through:

  • Launching differentiated products and market leadership initiatives
  • Leading energy transition and sustainability efforts
  • Expanding globalization and strategic diversification strategies
  • Enhancing NFL’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in urea production

His leadership is expected to strengthen NFL’s competitive positioning and navigate the evolving fertilizer and energy landscape effectively.

Regulatory and Compliance Status

NFL has confirmed that there are no inter-relationships between Mr. Gupta and other directors of the company. Additionally, he is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any regulatory authority, including SEBI. The appointment reflects the government’s focus on ensuring stability and continuity in leadership at one of India’s premier fertilizer public sector enterprises.
