Mokama, Patna: In a major development in Bihar politics, former MLA and powerful leader Anant Singh has been arrested in connection with the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of Jansuraj, during election campaigning in Mokama. Singh, who is contesting the current Assembly elections as a JDU candidate, was taken into custody following coordinated efforts by the Patna District Administration and Police.
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma announced the arrest, while Patna District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Tyagarajan MS stated that the administration has taken the Mokama incident “very seriously,” ensuring swift and impartial action.
Dr. Tyagarajan MS: The Doctor-Turned-IAS Officer Leading Patna Administration
Patna DM Dr Tyagarajan MS is a 2011-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre. Hailing from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, he originally pursued medicine, earning his MBBS degree from Coimbatore Medical College in 2008 under MGR Medical University. However, his passion for public service led him to shift careers — he joined the IPS in 2010, and soon after, cleared the IAS examination in 2011.
His administrative career began in Purnia district as a trainee officer. He later served as Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Patna City, Commissioner of Bihar Sharif Municipal Corporation, and District Magistrate of Nalanda, Darbhanga, and Gaya.
Key Achievements of Dr. Tyagarajan
During his tenure as Nalanda DM in 2015, Dr. Tyagarajan implemented a solid waste management plan in Bhui village, Rajgir — a model that gained national and international recognition. His initiatives helped Nalanda join the Smart City race, while his model village project at Chamheda drew wide acclaim.
In 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally honored him for his contribution to local governance and innovation.
Later, as Darbhanga DM (2019), Tyagarajan earned a reputation for administrative excellence. A survey by Fame India and Asia Post rated him as an “outstanding officer” on ten performance parameters, praising his quick decision-making and citizen-centric governance.
Kartikeya Sharma: The Tech-Savvy IPS Officer at the Helm of Patna Police
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, a 2014-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, has quickly earned a name as a result-driven and technology-oriented police leader.
Born on September 4, 1988, in Jharkhand, Sharma completed his B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad before turning to public service. He cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2013 and opted for the IPS.
A Track Record of Excellence and Swift Justice
Sharma began his policing career in Lakhisarai and went on to serve as SDPO in Siwan and Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sheikhpura, Vaishali, and Purnia districts.
While serving as SP in Sheikhpura, Sharma cracked a high-profile murder-cum-robbery case within 24 hours — tracing the culprits through an old mobile phone and recovering ₹2.5 crore worth of gold looted in Barbigha. His swift action earned him the Distinguished Service Medal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He also launched successful crackdowns on cybercrime networks in the region, arresting several major offenders and establishing Sheikhpura as a model district for cyber vigilance.
Administrative Synergy Behind the Arrest
The recent arrest of Anant Singh reflects the coordinated leadership of IAS officer Dr. Tyagarajan MS and IPS officer Kartikeya Sharma — showcasing strong synergy between the civil and police administration in Bihar. Their approach underlines the state’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, even in politically sensitive cases.
