Merely days ahead of Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy’s superannuation, the Andhra government appointed Mr. Neerabh Kumar Prasad (1987 batch IAS officer) as the new Chief Secretary. Mr. Reddy, who was supposed to retire by the end of June, went on leave on June 6 after meeting Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu, who is set to swear in as the Chief Minister of the state, after the Telugu Desam Party (TSP) swept the state assembly elections. The regime change has brought forth many changes in the state bureaucracy, too.
Mr. Prasad has a gamut of experience after serving in the state bureaucracy in various capacities over the last three decades. Before getting designated as the bureaucratic head of the state, he served as Andhra Pradesh’s special chief secretary in charge of the environment, forest, science & technology departments. In 1998, he became the District Collector of Tirupati and later served as Vice Chairman of Tirupati Urban Development Authority. In November 2019, he was also briefly given additional charge as Chief Secretary during the YSRCP regime after the then-incumbent L V Subramanyam was transferred suddenly.
Meanwhile, three other IAS officers Dr. Punam Malakondaiah (1990-batch), Mr. Revu Muthyalaraju (2007-batch) and Mr. Narayan Bharat Gupta (2010-batch), who worked in the former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s office in the last five years, were asked to report to the GAD for further postings.
