Retired IAS officer Anita Karwal has been appointed as the new Chairperson of Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (GujRERA). The Gujarat government issued the order on Monday. A 1988-batch IAS of Gujarat cadre, Ms. Karwal has served with the Central government and held important positions like CBSE Chairperson and as Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development too.
The post of Chairperson, GujRERA remained vacant for almost 9 months after the tenure of Dr. Amarjit Singh (retd IAS) ended in November 2022. In those past nine months, GujRERA created several daunting issues among realtors and property buyers. Following this, the developer fraternity had made several representations to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and respective departments for the appointment of a GujRERA chairperson so that the industry issues can be resolved.
