The Jharkhand government on Monday (January 3, 2025) confirmed the regular appointment of Anurag Gupta (IPS: 1990: JH) as the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) for a two-year tenure, starting from July 26, 2024.
Anurag Gupta, who had been serving as the acting DGP, also holds key positions as the Director General (DG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and has the additional charge of DG, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Having been promoted to the DG rank in 2022, he initially served as DG of Training before being appointed as acting DGP on July 26, 2024. However, during the Assembly elections, the Election Commission directed his removal from the post, leading to the appointment of Ajay Singh (IPS: 1989: JH) as DGP. On November 28, the state government reinstated Gupta as acting DGP before confirming his regular appointment on Sunday night.
