The Assam government on December 30, 2024, announced major administrative reshuffles within the police department, transferring several IPS officers to key positions. Notably, Mr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta (2007-batch IPS officer) has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for Guwahati, replacing Mr. Diganta Barah (2004-batch IPS officer).

- Mr. Akhilesh Kumar Singh (2003-batch IPS officer), previously IGP, T&AP, has been posted as IGP, Law & Order, with an additional charge of IGP, Communication.
- Mr. Diganta Barah (2004-batch IPS officer), former Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, has been posted as IGP, SB, with additional responsibility as Director of Lachit Borphukan Academy, Dergaon.
- Mr. Lachit Baruah (2004-batch IPS officer), previously IGP (SB), Kahilipara, will continue as Managing Director, Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd., Rehabari, Guwahati.
- Mr. Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan (2004-batch IPS officer), formerly IGP, Law & Order, has been posted as IGP, Administration.
- Mr. Vivek Raj Singh (2006-batch IPS officer), previously IGP, MPC, has been transferred as IGP, T&AP, with additional charges of IGP, MPC, and IGP, BTAD, Kokrajhar.
- Mr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta (2007-batch IPS officer), earlier officiating as IGP, Administration, now takes over as Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, with an additional charge of IGP, STF.
These appointments reflect the government’s efforts to streamline administrative efficiency and strengthen the state’s law enforcement.
